Flowers – national symbols

Flowers play an important role in our life. They can be found in all spheres of our life. So, every country has its national symbols and flowers may be the symbols of countries too.
Colombia – is a country that has the biggest number of kinds of orchid. Cattleya Trianae is the most famous kind. So this flower has become the national symbol of this country.
The national flower of Korea is chrysanthemum. Every year from July to October a great number of chrysanthemums blossom all over the country. In translation from the Korean language chrysanthemum means "immortal". This denomination characterises all the history of this country.
The National Emblem of Great Britain is traditionally decorated with the rose. This flower is not only a symbol of love but also of greatness. But the national emblem also has the shamrock as the symbol of Ireland and thistle as a symbol of Scotland. The same flowers but with white narcissus are on the State Emblem of Canada.
Three golden lilies are world-famous and are characteristic for the emblem of France. According to the legend a king changed three yellow frogs made on his emblem into three golden lilies. But nowadays the national Emblem of France doesn't have lilies. They were changed into leaves of the oak and olive. But still lilies are considered to be the national flowers of France.
Lotus is a national flower of Egypt. It was always a symbol of cleanness, nobleness and generosity. Besides, it is very difficult to get the flower of lotus because it grows in the water that is why people had to overcome all the difficulties.
Sweden is famous for its national flower that is the symbol of all Scandinavia. So this world-wide known flower is cornflower. This flower is able to live in the climatic conditions of Scandinavia.
Lily is also a symbol of Spain that is connected with Bourbons.
The national symbol of Finland is shy lily of the valley. The image of this flower was also put on the coins of Finland before introducing euros.
Sometimes the flower symbols are not very original flowers and sometimes even simple field flowers. Every nation chooses a flower that corresponds to the temper of the nation and to historical development of the country and the nation. But very often countries choose the most spread flowers in their countries for National Emblems.
Some countries have the image of their national flowers on their flags. So their colours play an important role in it.
But there are a lot of countries that have a flower symbol which are not included into National Emblems. For example the flowers of the blossom of cherry-tree are the first thing that comes into our minds when we remember about Japan.
Every flower is beautiful in its own way and they give their energy and beauty to all nations.
